Service package 1

Basic research

The church registers serve as the basis for all individualized historical research. The IRgH offers to trace back the direct male ancestors on the basis of one and the same church register right down to the the first entries. The following basic conditions must be met:

• No influx from any other church parish
• No illegitimate child whose father is not known
• There are no persons of that same generation bearing the same first and family names

If one only of these conditions is met, the line of direct ancestors cannot be traced back on the basis of the church register. In this case additional documents have to be consulted which is likely to cause extra work and thus extra costs.

Costs:

• In Switzerland CHF 300 all-inclusive  
• Abroad CHF 300 plus additional charges

Male ancestors

Exclusive female ancestors

The IRgH offers to trace back the line of direct female ancestors on the basis of various church registers right down to the first entries therein. The following basic conditions must be met:

• The family name of the wife is mentioned in the parish register.
• The wife’s place of origin is mentioned in the parish register.
• There are no female persons of that same generation bearing the same first and family names.

If one only of these conditions is met, the line of direct female ancestors cannot be traced back on the basis of the church register. In this case additional documents have to be consulted which is likely to cause extra work and thus extra costs. As the brides would leave their family’s house in order to move to their future husbands, they would often leave their original parish, too. For this reason, more than one church register will be consulted. The amount of additional work resulting from this is not very easy to assess, and thus the exact charges cannot be given. However, the IRgH will be pleased to offer overall charges that are acceptable to either side.

Spread and migration

The IRgH offers to investigate the regional spread of the ancestors, as defined by the customer according to time and space, in order to shed light on migratory movements.

On the basis of such an investigation church registers as well as various other documents are consulted. The amount of additional work resulting from this is not very easy to assess, and thus the exact charges cannot be given. However, the IRgH will be pleased to offer overall charges that are acceptable to either side.

Possessions

The IRgH offers to investigate historical possessions such as houses or estates of the ancestors, as defined by the customer according to time and space. From this the following conclusions can be drawn, all according to the agreements with the customers:

The family’s social status
The discovery of extant historical traces of historical buildings and etates.
On the basis of such an investigation church registers as well as various other documents are consulted. As the amount of additional work resulting from this is not very easy to assess, no exact charges can be given. Spelling of family names

The IRgH offers to trace back the spelling of family names.

For post-refomatory times, various church registers serve as the basis for the investigations. If the customer requires research on pre-reformatory times, other documents will be consulted. The amount of additional work resulting from this varies according to the period defined by the customer. For this reason, the amount of additional work resulting from this is not very easy to assess and no clearly defined charges can be given. However, the IRgH will be pleased to offer overall charges that are acceptable to either side.

Illustrations

The IRgH offers to trace historical illustrations of ancestors.

As church registers and other documents will be consulted in order to define the geographical dimension of this type of research, the amount of additional work resulting from this cannot be easily foreseen. It is, moreover, depending on the customer’s definition of the period of research. Therefore, no clearly defined charges can be given. However, the IRgH will be pleased to offer overall charges that are acceptable to either side.

Genealogical tree

The IRgH offers to create a classical genealogical tree.

Church registers will normally be sufficient for this type of research. If the genealogical tree is to be traced as far back as to pre-reformatory times, additional documents will be consulted. It is up to the customer to define which generations are to be represented in detail or only by way of sons and heirs. Thus, the additional amount of work may vary. Therefore, no clearly defined charges can be given. However, the IRgH will be pleased to offer overall charges that are acceptable to either side.

Service package 9

Family crests

The IRgH offers to shed light on aspects of family crests.

On the basis of such an investigation church registers as well as various other documents are consulted. The customer will define the period of research. The amount of additional work may, therefore, vary. For this reason the exact charges cannot be given. However, the IRgH will be pleased to offer overall charges that are acceptable to either side.

Service package 10

DNA-analysis

The IRgH offers to shed light on aspects of possible relationship based on DNA-analysis.

In this case, the DNA-analysis will not be carried out by the IRgH, which, instead, will work together with a well-respected laboratory. The IRgH functions as a coordinator and advisor. The amount of work in this case varies depending on the historical research to be done additionally before a DNA-analysis. For this reason, only the charges for a DNA-analysis can be given (with two different quality standards), but not the costs for additional research that may prove necessary. However, the IRgH will be pleased to offer overall charges that are acceptable to either side.

Service package 11

Visits

The IRgH offers to accompany you to historical places of your ancestors.

The IRgH functions as a tour operator. Preliminary research (service packages 4 and 5) is essential in order to find out about the places to visit. As the amount of work depends on the destinations and on preliminary research, no exact charges can be given. However, the IRgH aims to keep research on a reasonable level in order to offer you adequate visits. The IRgH will be pleased to offer overall charges that are acceptable to either side.
